Bedford’s Muay Thai fighter and current UK number 1 Bantam weight Daniel McGowan is set to take on USA number 1 Romie Adanza at the world famous Lion Fight show at The Pechanga Resort Casino in California on Friday, July 31.
McGowan jets out for his dream fight – which will be screened live on American TV – the week before the bout to prepare for his biggest stage yet.
The news for the Putnoe fighter comes off the back of win at The O2 Arena in London on June 20 against Belgium’s Burak Ilgin which ended in bizarre fashion.
The Belgian and his corner were disqualified for lack of corner discipline after they objected to the referee’s request for Ilgin to stop holding on to the ropes and to clear the spilled water from their corner of the ring.
At the end of round 2 the request from the ref was met with a torrent of abuse, which at first cost them a points deduction and then disqualification.
McGowan said: “Their behaviour was a disgrace – this sport is built on the backbone of respect and discipline, neither of which they showed.
“In my eyes they knew what was coming in the later rounds – he was going to sleep at one point in that fight and they knew it.”
Asked about his thoughts on his next fight in the States, a beaming McGowan said: “It’s what I’ve set out to do from an early age.
“Fighting in the US is a dream come true and I cant wait to show America what I can do and do everyone back home proud as well.”
