GNG Bedford were involved in a thrilling climax to the Eastern Regional Volleyball Series as they pipped Medusa to the title at University of East Anglia in Norwich.
The day ended with a storming final game that everyone was looking forward to, and GNG Bedford triumphed to claim their third win in the six-tournament series and take title from Medusa by a single point.
The Series Champions Trophy bears the name of the late Kewal Singh Sangha, a former GNG Bedford stalwart and captain, and it was fitting that the trophy was accepted by his son Dadar Sangha, who was one of the stars for GNG Bedford during the series.
The team got off to a flyer in the final with some power hits, but Medusa fought back and it was neck and neck after the first 15 minutes.
GNG Bedford’s three power hitters, Wojtek Pomorski, Krasi Kovachev and Chris Stent were in fine form, delighting the crowd with some super attack play.
Medusa’s younger and taller team were not giving up without a fight, though, and they kept applying the pressure.
But GNG Bedford’s Kovachev made it a day to remember with some of the best spikes of the season to silence the home fans and bring the GNG Bedford supporters onto their feet.
Bedford somehow found another gear and powered their way to a narrow victory – capping an emotional and incredible day for the club.
