Mowsbury Golf Club president Ed Willars hosted his President’s Day on Sunday, with 30 men’s pairs competing in the morning round for the President’s Cup. On a blustery but sunny day, the players coped well with some fiendish pin placements, with a third of the field scoring 38 points or better in the betterball Stableford event.
The winning pair with 43 points were Pete Woods and Lindon Nelson.
Two points adrift were 2015 club captain John Jones and his playing partner Doug Staddon, and one point further back were Andy Wright and Michael Hill, who took third place on count-back.
The President’s Day Junior Medal was won by Matthew McDonald who shot a nett 71; second was Harley Allan with nett 72, and third was junior captain Cameron Kirkbride-Jamu with nett 73. The lowest gross score was 75 by Tom Mead.
The afternoon round was a Mixed Greensomes Stableford event which saw the husband and wife pairing of Karen and Alan Heaume win with 39 points, just one point clear of Denise Michelin and Jack Willis on 38.
Lady captain Diane Cruz and her husband Joe took third place, just two points further back on 36.
In the 40th anniversary year for the club, it is quite an achievement that the club captain, lady captain and junior captain were all able to place in the top three in the various President’s Day competitions.
