A much improved second half performance saw Bedford Tigers edge out Hemel Stags 26-24 in their East Rugby League Premier clash at the weekend.
The hosts had a very sluggish start and were soon behind on the scoreboard, trailing by 14 points.
However, just before half time Sam Richbell crashed over the line to make it 14-4 at the break.
Bedford then managed to haul themselves back in contention during the second period and clawed their way back to 20-20 with 10 minutes to go.
Stags scored, but missed the conversion, to lead 24-20, before Tigers showed great heart and determination to draw level.
With the conversion to go, Rob Ashton held his nerve to secure victory.
Tries were scored by Sam Richbell (2), Jack Saunders, Jack Peachey and Robbo Robson, with Ashton kicking three conversions.
Tigers A were also in action against Stags as they romped to a 62-4 victory.
Tigers were on the scoreboard with the first attack as Trevor Hibbert crashed over, before Alex Borg soon weaved his way through the defence, while further tries followed from Waide Allen and Jack Webb to make it 22-0.
The second half saw Hemel start well and a try from on-loan Matt Spavins was their only score.
Tigers continued to dominate, with Yousef Richards (3), Tom Stafford (2), Borg (2) and Webb going over, while Allen kicked five conversions, with Matt Jones and Hibbert adding one each.
Tigers’ first team now meet Hemel again on Saturday in the Regional Cup Final being played at St Albans Centurions.
The U13s are having their second outing at the same location on Saturday morning, with their match starting at 10.30am, the adult games from 1pm and the cup final at 5pm.
