Lovell takes on Hungarian Balogh at York Hall

The 21-year-old won his pro debut back in June last year, beating Kevin McCauley on points, and is now feeling more than ready to take on Balogh in a super welterweight clash.

Lovell said: “It’s been a while as I started a new job and took a while to settle down and get into training properly.

“I’m back on it really well now though. I’ve had a really good camp, trained hard for about 10 weeks, lost about over a stone, so I’m in good shape.”

Lovell has had to change his preparation for he fight as he was due to fight Aaron Robinson on the Goodwin Promotions bill, but is now taking on Balogh.

His new opponent has fought once previously, losing to Adrian Martin on points in November of last year.

On the switch Lovell continued: “It’s a little bit of a challenge and I’ve only got one fight too look at, so it makes it a bit more difficult to figure him out.

“I know a little bit less about him, although I’ve seen the fight against Adrian Martin, who is a bit of a prospect anyway, so he lost against someone fairly decent.

“I think he will be a tougher opponent than Aaron would have been, but I’m confident, I feel like I’m fully prepared and the fittest I’ve even been, so I’m really on my game.”

The Bedford boxer, who has been training at Lonsdale Gym at Bedford Town FC and the KO Gym in Essex, is now hoping for a busy season, with one eye on a potential bout at the O2 on the David Haye bill in May.

He added: “That’s a possibility for me as I did get offered to fight on the previous one, but it was one week’s notice and wasn’t the right time.

“I’d love to get an opportunity to be on that though as it would be big exposure.”
