The 20-year-old went into the final with a three shot advantage over South Korean Miriam Lee, and carded a round of 72 to finish -16 for the tournament.

It could have been a different story all together though, after Jutanugarn’s double-bogey on the 13th allowed Lee to move within a shot of the lead.

But a birdie on 17 put her back in command as she secured the title.

“For me it was hard today,” she said afterwards. “I felt a little bit nervous at times. I think this victory is really important for me and Thai golf.

“I hope I can inspire some players in Thailand.”

Jutanugarn picked up final round birdies at the second and sixth holes to overhaul Lee, who had held the tournament lead for the first two days.

Woburn’s Charley Hull finished tied for 17th at five under.

On Twitter, she wrote: “Had it going today, shame bout my finish.

“Thanks for all the support this week, had great fun.

“It was an honour to play at Woburn.

“And big thanks to all the young kids coming out to watch. It made me realise how much a role model I am for you guys.”
