The Bedford CC Saturday first XI have all but secured the Bedfordshire Invitational League Division One title for the first time.
The celebration was confirmed with a huge 236-run victory against Dunstable, with Northamptonshire batsman Emilio Gay scoring 181 and Essex Academy batsman, Rahul Sheemar hitting an unbeaten 102.
In addition to the success of the Saturday side, the Bedford CC Sunday first XI have clinched the Bedfordshire County Cricket League Division Three title – confirming back-to-back promotions for the first time since the club reformed a decade ago.
It was another win over Dunstable that assured the second title of the weekend, with Emilio Gay scoring another century in a 145-run victory.
The club will attempt to push on next season in Division Two, as they continue their journey back to the summit of Bedfordshire cricket.
Club chairman Russell Beard said: “This has been a wonderful weekend on the field for Bedford CC to follow all of our recent success off the field with our redeveloped pavilion opening at the start of the season.
“To win one title is pleasing but to win two, in one weekend, is a really special feeling for everyone involved in the club.”
He continued: “Our win on Saturday meant that we won the Saturday Invitational League for the first time since the league began in 2012, while our title win on Sunday takes us into Division Two for the first time as Bedford Cricket Club, having joined the league in 2010 in Division Five.”
