After a goalless first half, the Walnut Boys went ahead five minutes into the second period, when Ash Fuller headed home.

They doubled their lead with 17 minutes to go thanks to Jake Newman’s strike and closed the gap on fifth placed AFC Dunstable to just two points with one game in hand.

At the weekend, Kempston ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against the leagues bottom club, Petersfield Town.

Grant Fryer headed a corner just wide early on before Fuller’s shot was blocked and Luke Heneghan saw his follow up smothered.

Rovers then took a deserved lead after 21 minutes as Ben Shepherd crossed for Fuller to tap home his 12th goal of the season.

The second period was barely three minutes old when Kempston doubled their advantage, as Newman rounded three defenders and pulled the ball back for Sam Johnson to drive into the net.

On the hour mark it was 3-0 as Newman’s cross was missed by Heneghan but not Johnson, who gratefully netted his second of the game and ninth of the season.

A late corner was then headed home by Fryer to make the scoreline more flattering for Rovers.

Kempston are on the road this weekend as they travel to Chalfont St Peter.
