Second half salvo sees rampant Kings Langley put Ampthill to the sword

Kings Langley ran riot in the second half to secure a 5-0 victory against lowly Ampthill Town in the SSML Premier Division.

Bottom of the table Ampthill gave a spirited performance and held Kings to a scoreless first half – mainly due to the visitors’ wastefulness in front of goal.

Daryl Atkins set the tone, robbing Phil Draycott but shooting over on 13 minutes, and Danny Hutchins followed suit soon afterwards.

The pair had further chances but found keeper Jonathan Webb in fine form, while Wilson tested Mayson Tewkesbury in a rare home attack.

With the break fast approaching, Derwayne Stupple’s second yellow card for a clumsy foul gave the referee little option but to also brandish a red to the Ampthill player/manager.

Once Nick Jackson had fired in an acute shot, the floodgates opened and Kings were 4-0 up 13 minutes later.

Jackson teased and turned his marker to deliver a perfect cross for a thundering Callum Adebiyi header and then an Atkins cross saw Alex Campana pick his spot to blast home.

When a shot was cleared off the line, Hutchins pulled the ball back across goal and Nick Jackson hit a low powerful volley through a crowded box to cap a man of the match performance with his second.

Ampthill went to the end, second half sub Jordan Batchelor executing two superb goal-saving tackles and restricting Kings to a late fifth when Billy Stevens battled for the ball and delivered a through-pass for Atkins to dribble round the keeper.

For Langley it was a third consecutive clean sheet, but tougher tests will lie ahead.
