The visitors went ahead midway through the first half when Sam Johnson netted.

Kirby levelled on the stroke of half-time, but the Walnut Boys scored what proved to be the winner after 66 minutes.

Rovers had needed a superb fight back on Saturday to secure a point at Holbeach United in a six-goal thriller.

Sean Coughlan gave the Tigers the lead just two minutes in, getting in behind the defence to score with a low left footed shot.

Jordan Thomas doubled the home advantage on 10 minutes, scoring at the second attempted after Coughlan raced past his marker on the right.

There was no let up from Holbeach as Stacy Cartwright marked his return from suspension with a 14th minute third, volleying in an Andy Tidswell corner via the post.

Kempston’s 27-game unbeaten run in the league was now in severe jeopardy, but Jamaine Ivy started the fightback after 51 minutes with a close range header from a flicked on Sam Johnson corner.

A Dom Marsala spot kick awarded for Dan Worthington’s foul on Ivy four minutes later put them in sight of some reward.

Marsala scored a second penalty, awarded for a Matt Warfield challenge on Shane Bush, after 71 minutes to earn Kempston a vital point.

Home keeper Rick Drury made late saves from Bush and sub Josh Winters to deny the visitors all three points.

Kempston host Harborough Town this weekend.

Kempston: Conway, Guiney, Simpson, Goodman Stoyles (Lyon), Riley (Winters), Marsala, Macrae, Ivy, Bush, Fuller (Johnson).
