AFC Kempston Rovers put in a convincing pre-season display as they overcame Hitchin Town 3-1 at Hillgrounds. Craig Grieve, Sam Johnson and Jason Turner got on the scoresheet in the first half before Hitchin’s Lewis Rolfe converted a penalty.
Hitchin began strongly in the first five minutes, but from then on the Rovers midfield started to take control. Grieve converted from a well-placed corner to give Rovers the lead before Johnson added a second in the 25th minute.
Turner scored a third for Rovers with a neat turn and finish to give Kempston a deserved 3-0 lead at the interval.
Jimmy Stoyles opted to make five changes for the second half and Hitchin took advantage of the lack of cohesion.
The visitors pegged a goal back through Rolfe after they were awarded a penalty.
Robbie Goodman should have re-established the three-goal lead for Rovers in the 70th minute before Kempston keeper Martin Conway made two good saves from Jonny McNamara late on.
