Peter Francis previews the County League weekend action

Action this weekend sees the delayed Britannia Cup quarter-final tie between Caldecote and Shefford Town & Campton top the bill at Harvey Close, with the visiting holders having won in league action at the same venue just over a month ago.It will be them rather than the hosts who will start favourites to entertain either Woburn or Flitwick Town at the last four stage later in the month.

In the five game Premier Division supported by Sportsform programme, third place Bedford Hatters having lost just once on the road all season at Shefford Town & Campton make their way to face bottom of the table Woburn at Crawley Road. With the home side having won just once on home soil this season it will be the visiting Hatters who will start the favourites to collect their seventh away win of the season.

For second from bottom of the table Dunton, it’s a trip to Hillgrounds in a search of just away win number two of the season when they are hosted by a AFC Kempston Town & Bedford College side who, since beating Dunton in the Britannia Cup at the same venue back in mid-December, have now failed to win in any of their subsequent six league outings.

Just above Dunton in the league standings are Flitwick Town and Sharnbrook who go head to head at Steppingley Road.Town looking to end a run of two consecutive home defeats, whilst the visitors search for just their third away win of the season.

Over at Renhold Playing Fields, hosts Renhold United now unbeaten in their last 10 outings receive a visit from a Blunham side that has won just once on the road all season. Whilst for Oakley Sports, the visitors to face them at their Playing Field headquarters are Wilshamstead who have lost just once in their last seven trips away from Jubilee Playing Fields.

In Division One the big game comes at Hurst Grove, where the top two sides meet with hosts Lillington United Sports defending their seasons unbeaten home ways against the visiting Marston Shelton Rovers whose lone away defeat to date this season came at Ickwell & Old Warden back in early October.

Of the other serious promotion candidates, for Bedford Sports Athletic its home Copley Playing Field action against an AFC Kempton Town & Bedford College Reserves side that has won just twice on the road this season.Whilst on The Green, Ickwell & Old Warden defend their seasons unbeaten home ways against the visiting FC Meppershall who hit the road in search of their third away win on the bounce

Over at Bedford Road Recreation Ground, the visitors to face hosts Sandy are in-form Lea Sports PSG who travel having only lost one of their last 11 outings and at Groveside, Henlow having lost their last two home outings will look to repair the damage when called upon by a Kings AFC side whose lone away win of the season to date came at Westoning just over a month ago.

Other action comes at Chaul End Lane, the venue at which Luton Boys look for their third home win on the bounce against the visiting Caldecote Reserves whose sole away win of the season came at Westoning Reserves on the opening day of the season: and at Greenfield Road which stages the clash between bottom of the table Westoning Reserves who look for just their second home win of the season when visited by second from bottom of the table Meltis Albion.

Away from the league action, its Bedfordshire FA Junior Cup semi-final day.In Stockwood Park,Sundon Park Rangers face a visit from fellow division two club Elstow Abbey. Whilst for division three Sundon Park Rangers Colts, its home Wrest Park action against division two side Potton United Reserves.

A result of these cup ties means the division two league programme is restricted to just four games. At Solway Road North, Co-op Sports receive a visit from the still 100% on the road this season AFC Turvey and at Everton Playing Fields, bottom of the table Great Barford now losers of their last 18 league outings take on Clifton.

Elsewhere in Mowsbury Park, Pavenham look to extend their unbeaten home ways to five games when called upon by Stopsley Park and at Rectory Road, Shefford Town and Campton Reserves entertain the visiting Bromham United.

Likewise the division three league programme is restricted to just four games.At Jubilee Playing Fields, Wilshamstead Reserves having won their last six home outings could well put a major dent in the promotion hopes of the visiting Goldington with win number seven ,all of which will be good news for Stevington if as expected they collect home win number five on the bounce when called upon by Royal Oak Kempston.

Over at Cutler Hammer, Kempston Hammers Sports go into home action against a Riseley Sports side that has lost just once on the road this season and at Mill Lane, Potton Town will start the firm favourites to collect the full three points when visited by bottom of the table Flitwick Town Reserves who have lost all of their 10 away outings to date this season.

In division four, its home action in Mowsbury Park for league leaders Bedford Park Rangers when they are visited by a Stewartby Village side that has lost just once on the road this season.Whilst second place Marsh Leys, still unbeaten on the road this season should retain that proud status when they hit the road for a Horseshoes Close outing against bottom of the table Dunton A.

Over at Keysoe Road, Thurleigh have been beaten just the once this season and will look to improve upon that record when visited by Wootton Village.Whilst at Hinksley Road, Dinamo Flitwick having won just once this season receive a visit from a Sandy Reserves side who come in search of their eighth away win of the season from just 11 outings.

Also in Mowsbury Park action are Goldington Hammers, who having lost their last five home games are visited by a Bedford Panthers side whose last three away league outings have all ended in defeat.Whilst at Hillgrounds, Kempston Athletic look to extend their unbeaten home ways up to three games when called upon by Clifton Reserves.

The final action of the day coming at Harvey Close when in a Watson Shield second round tie, division four hosts Caldecote A take on division three high flyers Renhold Village for the right to travel to either Wilshamstead Reserves or Goldington in the quarter-finals.
