New Inn chargers remain unbeaten

AFTER the first three weeks of the season, the teams of the Premier Division appear to be where they would be expected to be with Meltis Mexican currently leading and Oakley, Atletico Europa and Queensmen following astern.

Constant & Co and Lawson Park Rangers are midtable, the Rangers having a game in hand after being idle this week.

Meltis had to pull out all the stops to overcome London Road Supreme 2-1 at Jubilee Park. Scott Alleyne opened the scoring for Meltis and it remained 1-0 until half time. London Road pushed hard in the second half but were hampered by poor finishing, until Daniel Luke scored the equaliser.

But it was Johnny Clarke who scored the winner for Meltis when the London Road keeper spilled the ball four yards out. Supreme hit the bar but the points went back to Meltis.

Atletico racked up a fine 3-1 win at home to Oakley while Queensmen visited Esquires and thrashed them 12-3. And in the other game, Constant & Co put five past Caldecote Young Boys, with only the one in return.

Pre-season favourites Sharnbrook Casuals lead Division One by two points after beating Newtown Rangers 5-2 away. Dunton Sunday are doing well in second after winning at Stewartby 5-1 but New Inn Biggleswade are unbeaten after two games and fill third place. New Inn visited Kempston Hammers and left with a 2-1 win while 21st GNG Tigers are just behind after beating bottom club Bird in Hand 3-2.

Division Two looks like a competitive league with some good teams in there. Renhold have taken an early lead after beating Houghton Conquest 5-1 with Andrew Latimer scoring a hat-trick for Renhold and Scott Mann getting the other two. Chris Powell was adjudged man of the match for Renhold.

Caldecote Reserves look powerful after a 6-3 away win at Wootton Wanderers who had won their first two games. Eagle Heating have also turned up the wick earning a draw and their first point at home to Mowsbury Athletic in a 3-3 draw.

Mowsbury’s weakened side were under the cosh for the first minutes of the game but survived and had three good chances to score, one effort hitting a post. James Petty scored their first and five minutes later made it 2-0.

Eagle got their first in the second half and five minutes later drew level but Jack Cordell recovered the Ath’s lead with a delightful shot over the Eagle keeper into the corner of the net. And with ten minutes to go a goal from a free kick sailed into the Mowsbury net to again level the scores with a draw probably a fairest result.

Division Three has also got a number of good teams in the division, M&DH Clapham currently setting the pace ahead of Mile Road Casuals and Bedford Allsters. Clapham beat Mile Road 4-2 and Bedford Allsters drew with Old Boys leaving Clapham to draw ahead. It was also a ten goal draw in the Bedford Panthers versus Gardeners Arms game, but Wells Stars and Grafton Celtics both enjoyed away wins at Flitwick Eagles and Dunton Reserves respectively.

Santaniello’s are the early clear leaders of Division Four. With three wins out of three they are ahead of Goldington Rangers who had a good season last year. Santaniello’s beat Bedford Albion 7-0 whilst Rangers were frustrated with a 1-1 draw away to Bedford Cupids. Rose Biggleswade beat Shillington Pirates by a slender 2-1 margin and Oakley Reserves beat bottom club Bellini’s 3-1.

Newcomers Westoning Gijon head Division Five with a 100 percent record. They beat Oakley Wanderers 2-0 while Sandy Titans kept pace with them 1-0 away to pointless AFC Kempston Town to also maintain their perfect record. Bedford Old Boys hit six into Salento’s net to take third place on five points from three games. Salento are bottom of the table and pointless after two games.

Shillington Reserves and Alfa Oakley are comfortable in midtable after their 3-3 draw. Shillington went in at half time with a slender 1-0 lead, Alfa’s Marco Catrambone getting his first goal of a hat-trick just after the restart with a left footer. And he put his team into the lead shortly afterwards with a fine diving header from a Pasq Grasso assist. Shillington levelled and then they went 3-2 up but a penalty in the last ten minutes, buried by Marco, saved a point and qualified him for the man of match award.
