Nervais starts life at Bedford with victory

Bedford FC have confirmed Mark Nervais as the new manager of the club.

Nervais arrives after an extremely successful season last year with his United Counties League development squad.

He brings a backroom team of UEFA coaches Mark Di Carlo and James Petty alongside goalkeeping coach Simon Wedd and analytics man Michael Malone.

Bedford are competing in SSML Division One following relegation last time around.

Nervais said: “The club now have the right infrastructure in place, both on and off the pitch, to be successful and we all share the same long term aims and ambitions.

“We have a good nucleus of existing talent and are bringing with us some exciting youngsters that alongside our new development pathway mean things are looking very positive.”

Nervais welcomes any committed and hungry players capable of competing in the SSML to join the side at McMullen Park for pre-season training.

Bedford FC started their pre-season friendlies on a scorching Saturday with a fine 2-0 win at Long Buckby AFC.

The Bucks, who finished sixth in the UCL Divison One last season, came out strongly but a brace from Bedford’s newly signed striker Sam Smith either side of half-time made the difference.

The first goal, an overhead kick from inside the box, seemed to settle the nerves. After the break Bedford had the better possession taking their second from the penalty spot mid-way through the half.

The squad entertained Kempston Town at home on Tuesday, winning 4-0 with four different strikers on the scoresheet.

Next up at McMullen Park are Eynesbury Rovers of the UCL Premier on Saturday at 3pm followed by Bedford Town on Tuesday.
