Midweek action in the Beds County League

Wednesday night’s action in Division One of the Bedfordshire County Football League still leaves Kings AFC deep in relegation trouble following their 5-2 home defeat by Caldecote Reserves.

They were 2-0 down inside 10 minutes due to a brace of goals from Jack Boyd, that was to increase to 3-0 by half-time courtesy of a goal from Tom Wallace.

However, Josh Clements was to reduce the arrears in the new half before another goal from Wallace and a strike from Matt Basta took Caldecote into a 5-1 lead until Ollie Plested netted the home sides second goal.

In Division Two, leaders Elstow Abbey retained their season’s unbeaten ways and moved to within six points of the title after twice coming from two goals behind to secure a share of the spoils in a 4-4 draw at Sundon Park Rangers.

Andrew Fox and Matt Conway gave Rangers a 2-0 lead inside the opening 12 minutes which was cancelled out by a brace of goals from Harry Ellis in the 19th and 42nd minute to send the teams in at half-time level.

However, goals from Samuel Kehinde and Nicky Buttigieg soon had the Rangers 4-2 ahead in the new period until Danny Pilgrim on 70 minutes and a 35 yard blockbuster from Travis Joseph five minutes later ensured the game finished all square.

Elsewhere, also sharing the spoils were Potton United Reserves and Queens Park Crescents in a 3-3 draw at The Hollow. James Hearson, James Tizard and Amit Aghera on the home scoresheet.

In Division Three, Eastcotts AFC kepted their promotion charge on course to now move to within a point of league leaders Cranfield United Reserves with a 2-1 home victory over Wilshamstead Reserves.

Ciaran Alexander and Darren Masson netting the goals to take them to their eighth win on the bounce against a penalty reply from Paul Jones.

Now in third spot are Goldington, they leapfrogged above Renhold Village by beating them 6-4 on their own patch. James Morris and Karl Anderson both netting hat-tricks to do the damage against home replies via an own goal plus Dan Luke, Carl Townsend and Dan Goddard.

Elsewhere, Sundon Park Rangers were running out 3-0 home winners over Westoning Reserves thanks to a brace of goals from Ashley Wadhams and a strike from Robert Smith.

In Division Four, Bedford Park Rangers moved back onto the top of the league table on goal difference over Marsh Leys thanks to a 7-1 home win over Wootton Village. Shaun Finlay and Alex Liburd netting twice alongside single goals for Luke Rayner, Alex Liburd and Jordan Wright against a lone Village reply via Adam Flynn.

Now in third spot are Thurleigh, they jumped above the non-playing Clifton Reserves with a 6-4 home victory over Kempston Athletic. Josh Pierre St Claire and Steve Pledge both netting twice alongside single goals from Jared Pierre and David Mulvhill, whilst on the Athletic scoersheet were Carl Catchpole with a brace plus Gary Whitbread and Dee Sayid.

The final game of the night took Bedford Panthers to a 2-0 victory at Stewartby Village, Kevin Southby and Michael Bailey netting the goals to do the damage.
