Wrexham’s Bishop to show Town what they’re missing

Striker Andy Bishop is ready to show Luton what they are missing on Saturday after turning them down in favour of a move to Wrexham.

The striker will be part of Wrexham’s travelling party, but could so easily have been lining up for the Hatters after both teams made moves to sign him from Bury on transfer deadline day.

Bishop rejected the advances of Luton to sign for Wrexham - and the 29-year-old is more than happy with his choice, although he expects some stick for the decision at the weekend.

“I spoke to them on deadline day when Wrexham came in for me and they tried to get me to go down there,” confirmed Bishop, who played with player/boss Andy Morrell at Bury.

“When I spoke to Mozz (Morrell) I knew this was the right place to come. I have got a lot of respect to Mozz.

“I could have stayed in the Football League but I am at a stage of my career where I want to enjoy my football again. I have been at Bury a long time so it is just a case of a change of scenery.

“I knew that if I came here I would be treated properly, the facilities are great and the ground is Football League standard so it is the place to get everything going again.

“I want to prove to all the Wrexham fans that it is worth me coming here by scoring goals.

“It will be an interesting game because I think the manager (Paul Buckle) may have a few words for me after I turned them down to come here.”

Should Bishop make his Wrexham debut it will bring an end to a farcical two weeks.

Red tape has delayed Bishop’s international clearance and the striker is now hoping that those problems are in the past and he can finally focus on doing what he does best - scoring goals.

“It should be through by Saturday so I will be ready to go,” he explained.

“It is frustrating because I have missed three games which would have been nice to play in, but on the flip side I have had plenty of time to get to know the lads and how everything works.

“It is frustrating but I just have to get on with it.”
