Winger delighted to be back on scoring trail again

TOWN midfielder Robbie Willmott made an impressive return to the starting line-up against AFC Telford in midweek, writes Mike Simmonds.

So much had been expected from the ex-Cambridge winger this season, after he netted 16 goals for the U’s and Hatters last term, but despite now being up to six for the campaign, he is yet to hit top form.

There were glimpses of it coming back on Tuesday though as he unleashed a number of long range shots, while also delivered several dangerous crosses that just eluded his frontmen.

Willmott said: “Its been very frustrating for me.

“I played in a reserve game the other week which I wasn’t used to, but the gaffer decided on another side and I wasn’t in it.

“The gaffer said he wanted me to go back to my old ways, how I was last season, striking balls from distance.

“So every time I tried to hit the target and I had a few wayward ones and a few decent ones.

“We’ve been working on crossing a lot too.

“I managed to get a few good balls in but they just evaded the strikers and I think on another day they would have got on to them

“I just had to keep plugging away until I got my chance and I managed to score which puts me in good stead to start on Saturday.”
