Willmott makes Cambridge return

FORMER Town winger Robbie Willmott has completed a U-turn and returned to Cambridge United, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 22-year-old had joined Luton from the U’s for £50,000 back in January 2011, but left Kenilworth Road in the summer after reportedly being offered a deal worth less than he was on.

Willmott had set his sights on playing in the Football League as he told the News/Gazette at the time: “I think I’ve spent enough time in the Conference now and think I need to move on to another level.

“A door’s shut at Luton and I’ve got to open a door in the Football League.”

But on Tuesday afternoon, it was announced he had penned a two-year deal at the Abbey Stadium as he said: “I am disappointed with the way my career has gone and I am grateful to the club for giving me this opportunity to get back on track.”
