Willmott left disappointed by the manner of his Luton exit

RELEASED winger Robbie Willmott was left bitterly disappointed that Town didn’t put up more of a fight to keep hold of his services, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 22-year-old, who made 67 appearances for Luton, scoring 15 goals, was out of contract after the play-off final defeat to York City in May, but retained high hopes of extending his stay at Kenilworth Road.

Town announced last month though that Willmott, who confirmed he would be signing for a Football League club in the near future, was leaving on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract, a statement that the former Cambridge player strongly disagreed with.
