Willmott: Buckle has given me a new lease of life

EXCITED winger Robbie Willmott has admitted new boss Paul Buckle has given him a new lease of life since taking charge, writes Mark Wood.

According to Willmott, the Town chief helped him put his early season personal problems behind him and the 22-year-old is now more dedicated to his football than ever.

The winger said: “When Gary Brabin was in charge I had a few personal problems, which I needed to deal with and it took me a while to get over them.

“It took me a couple of months so I wasn’t at my best. The new gaffer’s given me a new lease of life and I can’t ask for a better gaffer to be honest.

“He’s been unbelievable with me, he’s kept me out training later than some of the lads. I’m always last out on the training pitch now which I never used to do.

“He’s just making me take my football more serious and he’s really getting into me.”

Willmott is out of contract at Kenilworth Road this summer but wants to stay and see Buckle complete the transformation of him and his team-mates.

He added: “I said when the gaffer came in after the first couple of games we had a massive change in us.

“I said to the lads, I believe if he had come in at the start of the season I’m sure we would have won the league. So I’m pretty excited to see what he’s going to do next season.

“My contract is up now, so I’ve got to have a meeting to see what they want to do.

“I’m more than happy to stay. I’m settled in the area, and I can’t ask for a better club.”
