Will or Becks set to deputise for Kovacs

CENTRE-HALVES Dean Beckwith and Will Antwi are champing at the bit to deputise at the back against Hendon in the FA Cup tomorrow, writes Mark Wood.

With concluding a deal for giant Hungarian centre-back Janos Kovacs, who has been on loan from Hereford, proving problematical manager Gary Brabin is set to turn to one of the two defenders who started the season at the back for them.

He said: “Will and Dean have been plugging away but their attitude’s been great day in day out and that’s what we want.

“The one position we have been quite healthy recently with is centre-half.”

One of them looks likely to deputise for Kovacs, but Brabin is still hopeful Luton will be able to conclude a deal for the 26-year-old, who has impressed since signing on a month’s loan when Town’s centre-half options were entirely decimated.

Brabin added: “We needed to get him in on loan because we were a bit short at the time.

“We are in constant contact with them (Hereford). He has really enjoyed his time here.

“We all know how passionate he feels about the club and we are hopeful we can get something sorted out but at the moment it’s not a done deal.

“There’s a lot of complications. I think if something is going to be done they would rather it was permanent.

“We can’t escape the fact we would have to take him on loan first.

“I don’t think we are a million miles away ourselves, Janos and Hereford.

“He has been back to Hereford this week and they seem to be on a good run and seem to be happy with the way things are going at minute and it ties in with what we are trying to do.”
