New Town signing Shaun Whalley believes if Town can win promotion this season, it could be the beginning of something special, writes Mike Simmonds.

The ex-Southport winger, who faces an immediate return to his former club on the opening day after the fixtures were announced this morning, said: “I’ve seen the manager say that it’s a massive project for him and that’s what it’s like for me.

“We want to get promoted, but in the long run, I think we can go even higher than that, Luton’s a club of massive potential.

Speaking about the likes of Crawley Town and Stevenage who have both gone up to League One after winning the Conference, Whalley continued: “No disrespect to other teams, but Luton are a lot bigger than them, so there’s no reason we can’t do that.”

Whalley is also looking forward to working with boss John Still, while he wasn’t fazed with the expectancy surrounding Town once more this campaign.
