Were FGR more than a match?

Hatters: Forest Green Rovers boss David Hockaday felt his side were hard done by to lose in the manner they did against Luton on Saturday.

Rovers had led 1-0 through Yan Klukowski’s strike before Stuart Fleetwood equalised and then Scott Rendell netted a last-gasp penalty.

Hockaday said: “It was two good teams going at it hammer and tong. We went ahead and I thought we looked in complete control.

“Then we have a free-kick or corner, they break and we’re not clever enough to slow the game down. They take a quick one, a great finish and it’s 1-1. Then for our young lads it’s about the key moments, as we lost it, had two or three chances to get it back, the ref’s given a handball and we end up losing it. I thought we more than matched them all the way and was really proud of the players.

“It was a great advert for the league, as I couldn’t really separate the teams. They’ve come back and showed great resolve, I think a draw would have been a fair result as it was tough to lose in the manner that we did.”
