Watkins urged to stay and fight for his place

Hatters boss Paul Buckle is hoping midfielder Adam Watkins fights for his Town future rather than pushing for another loan move, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 22-year-old has already been out to Kidderminster this season, and had even considered dropping down four levels to the likes of Dunstable Town.

But that’s not something that Buckle is keen on in the slightest for the player who scored his first goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Skelmersdale on Saturday.

He said: “I don’t want him to go out on loan, but I get a call or a text saying he needs to go on loan, permanent.

“I told him that if he wants to go out and it’s no disrespect to Hitchin or Dunstable, he’s better than that.

“I said to him when I was walking off, would you rather score a goal in front of two or three thousand or go out on loan?”
