The 21-year-old was in particularly critical of Buckle’s assistant Carl Emberson, who left the club recently.

Speaking exclusively to the News/Gazette, Watkins said: “I had a really good season under Gary Brabin. Once Paul Buckle took over, we kind of didn’t get on the best.

“The assistant manager (Emberson) didn’t like me and did everything he could to stop me from playing.

“I think he did as much as he could to cause me as much harm as possible, which is disappointing.

“There’s no point talking about it any more though, it’s all done.”

Despite the way in which Watkins felt he was treated last term, and being released by new manager John Still, he confirmed he would be back at Kenilworth Road supporting the side next season.

He added: “Luton will always be in my heart and I’ll always support them when I can. If we have a free week and there’s a game on, I’ll be down there watching with everyone else.

“It’ll be a little bit strange, but I’ll soon get back used to it and it will be good to see them do well.”
