Watkins rise negates need to sign England C international Rose

THE continued development of Hatters’ burgeoning young midfield talent Adam Watkins meant Town didn’t feel the need to compete for the signature of Newport County midfielder Danny Rose who signed for Blue Square Bet promotion rivals Fleetwood Town last week, writes Mark Wood.

Luton were one of a number of clubs linked to the 23-year-old’s signature after it was announced he would be joining an unnamed club for an undisclosed fee. The Cod Army have since confirmed his capture and, although he was a player Town were interested in, Watkins’ emergence made his signing unnecessary.

Boss Gary Brabin said: “There was an interest, but not enough. We’ve also had the emergence of Adam Watkins.

“We’ve had to see his development and I know I’ve frustrated people at times with the way I’ve managed that, but that’s all in the interests of the club and in the interests of Adam.”
