Watkins dismissed as Eastleigh lose to Dover

Town starlet Adam Watkins did his hopes of extending his stay at Kenilworth Road no good as he was red-carded just four minutes after coming on as Eastleigh lost their Blue Square Bet South play-off first leg 3-1 at home to Dover Athletic on Tuesday night, writes Mark Wood.

Speaking before the game, manager John Still indicated the club would be keeping tabs on Watkins and Alex Lacey during the Spitfires’ play-off campaign.

On the duo, the boss said: “We will still be looking. To be honest I think we’ve made up our minds how we feel (about their futures) but I think we should let their seasons end first.

“In fairness to them they’ve been associated with other clubs on loan and I think it’s only fair I give them an opportunity to prove themselves where they are.

“I think it’s a bit unfair to enter into that because they’ve got things on their mind and unfair to the clubs too.”

Young defender Lacey came on as a 36th-minute sub and played as part of a three-man defence.

Watkins entered the fray after 72 minutes and was sent off with Eastleigh 2-1 down when Ricky Modest went to the ground clutching his face as the midfielder tried to get the ball back off him.

Afterwards, Watkins tweeted: “Still fuming. Hate people that cheat what goes around comes around.”
