Although neither Alex Lawless or Solomon Taiwo featured, there was game time for the likes of Matt Robinson, Jim Stevenson and Andrew Parry, while transfer-listed duo Scott Rendell and Lathaniel Rower-Turner both played.

Hatters also used the exercise to run the rule over a number of trialists as first team coach Hakan Hayrettin said: “Players who needed minutes were involved to keep them on their toes, fit and ready if required.

“We had some trialists too as we’ve got a wide range of networking and scouts who have recommended that we take a look at them.

“It’s important to have minutes for those who aren’t playing, minutes for youngsters to show what they’re capable of and minutes for trialists to show what they can do.”

The return of Wall was a big plus for Town boss John Still, as he admitted he was expecting quite an impact from the former Maidenhead forward, who is yet to feature in the league this year.

He said: “I had big things in my mind for Alex Wall this year, I really did. I thought he’d be a monster for us and he still might be maybe. We’ve just got to take our time.

“He’s had more consultants see him than he’d like to mention, but hopefully we’re getting to the bottom of it.”
