Walker was in the dark over Town future

Former Town striker Dan Walker has revealed he thought the Hatters had forgotten all about him as he was the last squad member to be axed by new boss John Still in the close season, writes Mark Wood.

The Hatters left their options open on Walker until the very last minute and the 23-year-old admitted he thought they’d forgotten his deal was up as he was set to finalise his move to Town’s rivals Hereford United this week.

He said: “My contract was ending and I was thinking everyone was finding out about their futures one way or another and I was waiting.

“I wondered if there was a mix-up and they thought I was under contract for another season but that wasn’t the case, I didn’t know what to think.”

Boss Still though had been leaving his options open and, having already signed Alex Wall from Maidenhead, he also netted former Premier League striker Mark Cullen from Hull, meaning that Walker’s chances under Still next season would be severely limited.
