Walker wanted first team football as he signs for Bulls

Former Hatters forward Dan Walker felt the need for regular first team football meant he couldn’t remain at Kenilworth Road, writes Mark Wood.

The striker, who has since signed for Hereford United, saw Luton boss John Still bring in Alex Wall from Maidenhead and former Premier League attacker Mark Cullen from Hull, meaning that Walker’s chances next season would be severely limited.

“He rang me and said he would loved to have me as a player but I’m a free agent and he can’t guarantee me first team football which you will want and thought I should move on,” said Walker.

“I thought the same because I wanted to be playing first team and it was a mutual agreement.”

Walker, who netted five times in 36 appearances for the Hatters since signing from Bedford Town three years ago, revealed he’d had a number of options, but has hit the bullseye with the move to Edgar Street.

He added: “I had a few options, teams like Braintree but I didn’t want to go part-time.

“Martin Foyle the manager at Hereford wanted me on loan at the end of the season. I think John Still said no at the time.

“I went and spoke to him and got things sorted.”
