Waders let lead slip against Bluebirds

Biggleswade Town let a 3-1 lead slip as they were held by Chippenham Town in their Calor League Southern Premier Division clash on Saturday.

Waders had taken the lead after just three minutes when Brett Donnelly converted from close range after Steve Gentle flicked on Max York’s throw.

Town keeper Ian Brown made some fine saves, before Biggleswade extended their lead on 20 inutes when Lee Reed’s corner was headed home by Gentle.

The hosts then took their foot off the gas as Tom Knighton pulled one back on 34 minutes, just moments after coming off the bench.

It was 3-1 before half time though when Lee and Sam Reed, before the latter fired under the advancing keeper.

New signing Lee Smith came on for Nat Peacock after the hour mark, but Chippenham hit back as Alan Griffin made it 3-2 on 73 minutes, and the visitors levelled through Joe McClennan shortly afterwards.

Waders were then reduced to 10 men when Evan Key was sent off, but the hosts hung on to clinch a draw.

On Tuesday night, Biggleswade visit Hungerford Town.
