UPDATED: Tinker man Still looks set to partner Shaw and Gray in attack for Luton

‘Tinker’ man John Still looks set to make a number of changes for tomorrow night’s visit of Stockport County, writes Mark Wood.

With midfielder Arnuad Mendy suspended, Solomon Taiwo looks set to start with the view to playing an hour.

Skipper Ronnie Henry is likely to be available again after illness, but looks set to be given a little longer to recover with Simon Ainge being given another chance to impress at right-back.

Hamstring injuries mean Alex Lawless and Janos Kovacs are still missing, but Jon Shaw is available and is set to partner Andre Gray up front with Alex Wall, who has impressed in his last two starts, being placed on the ‘back burner’.

Former Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Taiwo made his Luton debut as a second half substitute in the goalless draw at title-hopefuls Wrexham on Saturday, and Still said: “He needs three or four games to get into the swing.

“He may well start tomorrow because we have a suspension to Mendy, so he may well start tomorrow. Probably not get 90 but hopefully an hour.”

Still is also keen to get a look at striker Shaw in a Luton shirt and may well see how his partnership with Gray would shape up.

“I think there’s still one or two more that I need to see,” he said. “I’ve not been able to see Jon Shaw just yet who was on the bench on Saturday, so he’s a possible tomorrow.

“We rested Andre on Saturday so he’s a possible as well and that’s another combination I’ve not seen.

“Alex Wall has come in now and he’s had two starts and now the old full-time training’s really kicked in he’s like a tin man the last week or so.

“He’s shown good glimpses, I’ve liked what I’ve seen with him so I can probably park him on the back burner for a week and let him recover a little bit.

“And that will give Jon Shaw an opportunity. I’ve seen Jon other than here, I’ve not seen him here, and I’ll have a look at him and Andre how that works out.”

Skipper Henry though, looks likely to be given more time to recover from the illness that laid him low at the weekend.

Still continued: “Ronnie wasn’t well on Saturday. He would have recovered, but whether I use him or not or give him a week’s training that’s a possible as well, I’m not 100 per cent sure on that one. But that’s more likely than unlikely. Alex Lawless won’t make it tomorrow, Kovacs won’t make it tomorrow.”

Henry’s absence may well give Ainge the chance to again prove his worth, as Still added: “He done OK obviously. I haven’t really seen him in what would be classed as his favoured position yet.

“We’re not over-blessed with right-backs, well we’re not blessed at all, we’ve only got one!

“But he came in and did a steady job. I understand he’s played it before, I don’t know if he’s done it here, but I thought he done a steady job, as did all the back four.

“Maybe we leave that as it is for Tuesday.”
