With Joe Davis and Alfie Mawson having returned to parent clubs Port Vale and Brentford this week, Town chief John Still is expecting to have a new on-loan defender in place for Saturday’s FA Trophy tie at Cambridge United.

He also revealed at today’s press conference that he anticipates bringing in a permanent signing towards the end of the transfer window.

Still said: “Alfie couldn’t play in the cup Saturday because he’s cup-tied from Maidenhead, but there will be one more coming in tomorrow.

“I can’t tell you the loan player because it isn’t signed yet, it’s happening as we talk. It’s agreed.”

And intriguingly Still indicated that the Hatters are also set to strengthen further in the future, although he declined to reveal in which position.

He added: “There could also be a permanent one during the course of this month.

“Maybe not today, but maybe at the end of the transfer window we might do a permanent, but I’ll keep you in touch with that.”
