Town chief John Still revealed the 21-year-old had gone under the knife at this afternoon’s press conference.

The defender, who Luton signed from Histon in the summer along with Jim Stevenson, suffered the injury in pre-season and is yet to make his competitive debut for the Hatters.

On the latest injury to hit his squad, Still said: “The saddest one for me is Danny Fitzsimons. We like him a lot but he got injured earlier in the year and he’s been trying to get over it.

“They’ve had another look and he’s gone in for an operation. He’s had an operation on his knee which he picked up really coming back from an injury.

“I think he picked it up at Peterborough and that’s caused him a problem and I really feel for him.

“He’s a smashing lad, desperate to get on and do well, but I don’t think we’ll see him this season, I don’t. But there’s nothing we can do about that.”
