Striker Jon Shaw is unavailable after having his hernia operation, while defenders Anthony Charles and Danny Fitzsimons also remain sidelined by injury.

However, striker Alex Wall has recovered sufficiently from a long-term virus to challenge for a place and midfielder Solomon Taiwo is also in contention.

On the injuries, Still said: “I’m hoping he’ll (Lawless) really commence training properly next week. I’m not going to push, push. We’ve all pushed a little bit and he just gets little niggles, nothing serious, but we’re hoping he can hit the ground running next week so we will be pleased with that.

“Jon Shaw has had his operation, he’s in today, but obviously he’s going to take his time.

“I think from the operation they say four to six weeks. Because of his age he might be five weeks instead of four weeks. I think it’s important as you get a bit older to make sure you’ve got enough strength and that and we wouldn’t want to push him.

“Anthony Charles he’s resumed training, but in his own time at the moment so not in with the squad but probably not far away.

But there was better news elsewhere, as he continued: “He’s (Taiwo) available. Alex Wall is training and I’ll push him a little bit so the Brentford game (development game on Tuesday) will be good for him.

“He’s not ready to necessarily start a game but he probably could come on and go for 45 minutes if I’m being honest. And he gives you something different, there’s so much power.

“He had 75 minutes on Tuesday and he’ll hopefully play 90 minutes next Tuesday at Brentford.”

Beaten in last season’s play-off semi-finals, the Mariners, like Luton, have also made an indifferent start to the season and sit just one point above the Hatters in the table.

But Still believes it is still far too early to start drawing any conclusions.

He added: “There’s a lot of us! I’ve been in this game a long time and I’ve seen teams start off like a house on fire and fade and teams start off slow and come strong.

“It really doesn’t bother me in terms of six, seven, eight games. Some of these teams we’ve played in the six games now, any one of those teams could have a fantastic season. Any one of them for whatever reason could have an absolutely fantastic season and we’re number seven.

“Because at the start of a season some teams start slow, some teams start quick, some teams start scoring a lot of goals... Get the season going. I read something in the paper that Manchester United haven’t started the season well.

“If you look back in Alex Ferguson’ history there’s been years they haven’t started particularly well neither when he’s been there. They’re saying is it the new manager? It might be, it might not.

“One thing’s for sure, the best teams finish highest in the league it’s as simple as that, so let’s wait to the end of the season and we’ll see who the best teams are.”
