The 20-year-old defender has trained today, but has not featured since twisting an ankle almost two weeks ago in the goalless draw against Grimsby Town where he was substituted at half time.

Summer signing from Southport Andy Parry has deputised well in his absence and looks likely to continue to do so if Lacey does not recover in time as, although experienced defender Anthony Charles played an hour in a development game yesterday (Tuesday) he is still a week away from contention.

Striker Jon Shaw is making good progress after his hernia operation and, although he is back in light training, he is still at least a week away from stepping it up.

Defender Danny Fitzsimons remains sidelined and target man Alex Wall is set to serve the second of his three-match ban following his dismissal at Wrexham.

Boss John Still said: “Jon Shaw is doing some light training and I’m hoping he’s back within the group within a week or 10 days.

“Alex Lacey trained today so we’ll see how he is tomorrow.

“Anthony Charles played in the development game on Wednesday and trained today so he’s probably only a week away now from getting back to where he was.

“And Danny Fitzsimons we’re going to stand him up against a wall and shoot. Because we’re still waiting for him. And if he’s not ready soon we’re going to shoot him.”

Still admitted Town had picked up some ‘knocks’ in Tuesday night’s 3-0 victory over Dartford, but confirmed there was nothing serious.

He said: “Some knocks. I don’t really know enough about them at the moment until tomorrow.

“But one or two knocks, but they are only knocks. I don’t know about Saturday yet, but certainly not anything long term.

“Just knocks and we’ll have to have a look tomorrow.”

And while not needing to make any changes after such a good performance, he admitted he may be tempted if people are fit and put themselves forward.

“I’m not looking necessarily to make changes, but if people make themself available then I’ll look at it”, said Still. “But at the moment I’ve got no need to look too deep at it.”

Lacey would appear to be the most likely to tempt Still into a change as he continued: “If he’s fit we’ll look at that. Will we change it? I’m not sure, but we might decide to give him a good week’s training and we’ll have a look.”

And it’s the form of the impressive Parry that poses Still with such a conundrum.

He added: “He’s (Parry) done very well. He can play there. He can play centre midfield and we saw him do very, very well in there.

“So it does give us options with someone as versatile as him. But as I say, we’ll wait and we won’t rush anyone back from injury to push, we’ll wait and see how they are and decide really on Saturday.”
