UPDATED: Hatters boss Still spoiled for choice ahead of FC Halifax Town visit

Only the likes of defenders Danny Fitzsimons and Garry Richards, who has yet to play competitively for Luton after well over a year, are still unavailable.

Alex Lawless, Jake Howells, Alex Wall and Anthony Charles, who have all suffered recent knocks are available, as is target man Jon Shaw after his recent hernia operation, but the game has come too soon and will not be risked.

And boss John Still refused the rule out the possibility that new signing David Viana may also figure in his squad.

Still believes it will take up to another two months to get to know all of the former Portugal U19 international’s talents, but his chance may come much sooner, with tomorrow not an impossibility.

He said: “It might be before that, within that couple of months I’ll know everything about him.

“I’ll know everything about him and I think that’s important, I’ll know his strengths and his weaknesses, maybe before that, but certainly by then.”

It’s been a productive week for Luton with a number of players figuring in Tuesday’s 3-2 development win against Northampton Town.

Still said: “It’s been a good week. We had a development game midweek as well to give some people some football.

“The players that have been injured have got a good week’s training so good all-round.”

On those injuries, Still continued: “More knocks, like Lawless, was a little but of a knock, which was something of nothing.

“Jake Howells has had a little bit of a knock, he had a little bit of a rest but he’s pushed on this week.

“Jon Shaw, obviously, he played a half-hour of the development game and done all right and has trained all week. So pretty good.

“Jon I think he’s not far behind. But Jon’s not ready yet, Jon needs another week or two.”

Last season’s player of the season Lawless has missed most of this season with a series of minor problems, but looks set to face the Shaymen tomorrow.

Still said: “He might play Saturday, we will have to see how he is tomorrow. It wasn’t a bad injury, just a knock.

“And sometimes when you’ve been out for a little while and when you come back you get your little referred injuries where you’re over-compensating a little bit on things. Alex Lawless getting fit is good.”

So with Shaw in reserve and the likes of Paul Benson, Andre Gray, Mark Cullen and Wall all fighting for a place up front, Still is thrilled with his attacking options.

He added: “I think it was important that Benno got a game in last week. He was not at his sharpest when he joined because he hadn’t played.

“Got a little but of sharpness, looked the part and missed a little bit, so that was important to him.

“Cully’s done very, very well. Andre’s come on and looked really sharp when he’s come on in games. So attacking options I think are decent.”
