UPDATED: Harris hails Town’s terrific travelling support ahead of Nuneaton game

The Hatters had already sold more than 1,800 tickets of their 2,200 allocation on Wednesday for the clash at Liberty Way.

It mean’s Luton’s supporters will already beat Boro’s highest gate of the season at 1,634, and dwarves their average attendance of 1,120.

Harris said: “It will be a fantastic atmosphere and I have to say firstly thanks ever so much because I know times are tight at the moment and to take 1,800 people plus to Nuneaton is a fantastic achievement and it highlights the size of Luton as a football club.

“And I hope that we can put on a good performance and justify their presence.”

The match could easily exceed the record attendance at Liberty Way which saw 3,111 witness Boro take on Chasetown in the Southern League Division One play-off final in May 2009.

Town were given a terrific reception by their fans following Saturday’s 7-0 home demolition of Hereford United at Kenilworth Road.

Harris said: “It was absolutely fantastic to see and really the reception the players got at the end of the game I don’t think many people left the ground prior to the end of the game really.

“And when we do our warmdown around the pitch, and we’ll do that win, lose or draw, we don’t do it just when we win, we do it win, lose or draw.

“I thought the reception they got (was great), and the stadium seemed packed as it did at three o’clock - so absolutely fantastic.”

On this weekend’s game, Harris continued: “The position that we are in at the moment I don’t know many Conference sides that could or would take 1,700, 1,800 away from home.

“It’s absolutely unbelievable. It’s gradually built up as the season’s progressed.

“We took a big crowd to Alfreton and long may it continue and hopefully we will give them something to cheer about.”

Just like Alfreton part-time Nuneaton are excelling this season and sit fourth in the table with 53 points from 33 games, two points inside the play-offs.

And Harris would relish another performance like that against Alfreton, which saw the Hatters thrash the Reds 5-0 at the Impact Arena in December.

“I think our performance at Alfreton was top drawer,” said Harris. “The first 15 minutes, probably the first half an hour really, was absolutely frightening.

“Whilst against Hereford the second half was top drawer as well. The power and the pace we play at really.

“But with Alfreton and Nuneaton, I have to hold my hands up to them, they are both sides that have done absolutely fantastic to be in the positions that they are at this moment in time.

“And if they can continue in them in the same vein then they’ve had fantastic seasons.”

But he was full of praise for Boro boss Kevin Wilkin whose side have defied the odds to climb into the play-offs.

Harris added: “Most definitely. Kevin Wilkin and his staff have done absolutely fantastic there.

“It’s well documented that I think they are part-time is the right terminology.

“I know through past experience really that sometimes the difficulty of being part-time is really the organisational part of the game.

“You can be as fit as you can be, but you sometimes need opportunities or time whereby you can organise your side for the coming game.

“And sometimes if you’re part-time you don’t get that time.

“To be where they are at this moment in time is absolutely fantastic for Nuneaton and I think it’s a big well done to him and his staff.

“But as I keep saying really, the old adage, it really is one game at a time and we know Saturday is going to be no different to any other game.”
