Tyne to cement play-off place say players

TOWN’S stars are looking to make it job when they face Gateshead at the International Stadium in front of the Premier Sports cameras this evening, writes Mark Wood.

Victory will cement their place in the play-offs and Luton are looking to land the killer blow against the Tynseiders tonight, who threw away their own promotion hopes with a 4-2 defeat at already-relegated Bath City at the weekend.

Winger Robbie Willmott, who scored Luton’s winner in the 1-0 victory against Kidderminster on Saturday, said: “The job’s not done. We’ve got a massive game now away at Gateshead. And hopefully we can pick up three points there.

“They had a bad result today but they are going to be at home and it will give them the advantage. If we pick up a big result there the job will be done.

“Hopefully we can get a win and then it’s settled. We are going to go in there like every game with a lot of confidence and just try and win the game.”

Keeper Mark Tyler is targeting another clean sheet as Luton look to continue their revival under new boss Paul Buckle.

He said: “They’re out of it now Gateshead and have nothing to play for, but we will still go there like we have done the last four or five games and play at a good tempo and prepare right and hopefully we can come away with the win and another clean sheet.

“We are obviously going to prepare right for Tuesday’s game. Our main focus really is to get that win and make sure we’re secure in the play-offs and then we can have a big celebration on the 20th May when we make it.”

Giant Hungarian Janos Kovacs was also concentrating on the job in hand after picking up numerous end of season awards.

He said: “I’m very happy today and have a massive smile on my face but the job is not done yet. We have a very, very hard five games left I say.

“Two games left in the normal season and hopefully three games in the play-offs.

“And after that that’s the time I really want to celebrate together with everyone, team-mates, staff and the fans.”

And sidelined striker Amari Morgan-Smith is looking for the Hatters to continue their recent upturn in results.

He added: “At this stage of the season you’ve got to be confident and we’ve got to go into every game being positive and we’ve hit that little run now and clubs won’t want to play us and what not.

“We’re going into Tuesday’s game just knowing we’ve got to get a win and then we can concentrate on the play-offs.”
