He said: “I haven’t put on much weight so, like I said before, we’ve got a great staff here now.

“We’re doing things properly, the gaffer will breed success and I want to be a part of it and hopefully if I keep playing and I keep strong many more years to come.

“Yes I’m doing my badges, but that’s just part and parcel of football. I had discussions with Gary, but ultimately I want to play football.

“I’m a young 36, I’ve only just turned 36, so touch wood if I stay how I feel, and if the gaffer’s here with his new regime, which is great for anyone and all the young lads to work with, hopefully it will be quite a few more years.”

And there are no issues with his back that has flared up in recent seasons, as he added: “No worries. I’m happy that I’ve got a good fitness coach and got a good masseur in Daz and also Si the physio, they’re looking after me, it’s fine, no problems.”
