Tyler backs Norwich to bounce back

Town keeper Mark Tyler has backed hometown club Norwich City to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Hatters, writes Mark Wood.

The 35-year-old keeper played a key role against his former club as Luton produced the shock of the round to upset their Premier League rivals, 85 places above them in the standings.

He said: “They haven’t been playing well the last seven games. But the Premier League’s a hard league. Give them time, they’ve got a great manager.”

Tyler had even been surprised with a chat with one of his Norwich heroes, keeper Bryan Gunn, before kick-off which helped to inspire Town’s giantkilling.

He said: “They surprised me with that this morning. It was quite nice to speak to Gunny, he gave me a pair of gloves which was great. It was good from Talksport, so I’m really happy.”

Just like with their triumph over Wolves, Town’s gameplan of playing on the counter again paid dividends.

Tyler said: “We had out gameplan for both games. They had a lot of possession but they didn’t really hurt us in behind us and we played on the counter-attack.

“With our pace and power up front we can cause any team any problems. The boys who came on know their jobs and it was all three subs who combined for the goal.

The keeper admitted he and his side had to concentrate even more intensely than they normally have to do for a league game as he continued: “You can get away with it in our league, you don’t have to concentrate for 90 minutes.

“But when you play a Championship side or a Premiership side, they’re on the go for 90 minutes so you have to stay switched on. It’s one of the most mentally draining games I’ve had for two or three years so I’m delighted with the victory.”

And he’s hoping that Town will now get a massive payday after Norwich had controversially lowered priced to £10 for adults and £1 for children for this encounter.

He added: “Maybe they were a bit too low, but that’s great on Norwich’s part, because we had a full house, so it’s kind of a win-win situation.

“I think if we had the whole stand we would fill it straight away. Our fans are brilliant, they will snap up tickets left, right and centre, whatever money, because they follow us throughout the country.”
