Trio are a doubt for Darts clash

Hatters have doubts over new signings Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu and Jernade Meade plus midfielder Alex Lawless for tomorrow’s Skrill Premier trip to Dartford, writes Mike Simmonds.

Ruddock Mpanzu has an ankle strain, while Meade needs to improve his fitness after playing development games this season for Swansea City and Lawless is still recovering from an eye infection.

Boss John Still said: “Pelly is fit from that injury (suffered against Kidderminster), but he just picked up a little ankle strain in his last game against West Ham, so maybe not Saturday, but probably after that, as it’s nothing serious.

“Jernade, we’ll give him a week or so to settle in and then we’ll judge him. I don’t know anything about his fitness at the moment, he’s not injured, but with development players, their fitness isn’t up to what we do.

“We’ll take a little bit of time, we don’t need to rush. It’s not like and this is not said with disrespect, he hasn’t gone straight from Arsenal to Hartlepool, he’s gone to another Premier League club.

“So that would tell you he has something, he’s trained with us and he has got something.”

Meanwhile, on Lawless who missed the 3-0 win over Nuneaton, Still continued: “He’s better. I spoke to him this morning (Thursday) and I’m not 100 per cent sure what he’s done with the physio and will be able to do.

“We’ll find out a bit more, but I think he’s on the way to mending.”

The rest of Town’s squad who have been out injured are all now training again, but the wet weather has prevented them getting games needed to be considered for first team action.

Still said: “They’re all training hard and are ready to play a game if someone can tell me when the rain’s going to stop.

“That’s been the problem at the moment, we would have liked to have a game for them by now as they’re not ready yet (to play for the first team).”

The boss also hinted he may well utilise the loan market too if the rain continues, to give Town’s title charge the best possible chance.

He added: “We have (Alex) Lacey, we have (Andy) Parry, we have (Solomon) Taiwo, we have (Anthony) Charles, we have (Jon) Shaw who are desperately in need of games.

“We have loaned some players out and it may be that I look at that again as I want us to be as strong and powerful and as fit as we can be for the last bit of the season.”
