Tributes pour in for Town’s ‘Ovengloves’

FORMER Hatters custodian Mark Ovendale sadly passed away after a brave fight against cancer on Monday at the tender age of 37, writes Mark Wood.

Affectionately dubbed ‘Ovengloves’ by many supporters he was a marquee signing under Ricky Hill in August 2000 when Town paid £425,000 for his services.

Shocked chairman Nick Owen said: “Thirty-seven years old, it’s just beyond belief.

“Especially when someone has been a professional athlete, it’s such a shame.

“All of us at the club are stunned by it and very, very shocked.”
