Town youngsters sparkle against Diamonds

Luton Town U18s continued their impressive form with another well-earned win against a strong AFC Rushden & Diamonds side on Tuesday night, writes Ross Gregory.

Boss Paul Driver named a young squad which included twelve 16-year-olds and even 15-year-old goalkeeper Liam Goodge, who was brought on in the second half.

The young Hatters started brightly and took the lead through Ian Rees after just two minute as he found the net with a wonderful 30-yard strike.

Following his goal against Leighton Town last week, Leeroy Magaraushe made it two, as after seeing his penalty saved, he followed up to score the rebound.

Rushden then set up an exciting last 20 minutes when Fazel Koriya who smashed home following a Russ Dunkley flick-on.

Despite late pressure on Goodge’s goal, it was Luton who claimed the victory much to the delight of boss Driver.

He said: “I am pleased to come out with a win in what was a well fought game.

“Physically we looked decent and all the youngsters that featured will have gained great experience against a good side like Rushden and Diamonds.”

Driver’s side visit Waltham Abbey in their third and final pre season game against senior opposition this weekend as he added: “We are expecting a tougher test than the two already, but I’m confident if we continue to perform like we have in the last two games we can win the game.”
