Town wait on duo’s fitness

HATTERS: Centre-half Garry Richards is nearing a first team return for Town following a twisted ankle, while Danny Spiller is still a major doubt with an achilles problem.

Richards has only played 45 minutes of pre-season since injuring an ankle following his move from Gillingham, while Spiller is yet to feature at all.

Boss Paul Buckle said: “Richards is a bit further ahead than Spiller. Richards had a setback on our pre-season trip, twisted the ankle but he’s well on the way back now.

“Spiller we’ve got to get him checked over on his achilles because that’s been a bit longer than we thought. These things happen in pre-season. Very rarely in pre-season or during the season do you have a full squad to pick from. But everybody else has stepped up.”
