Town stung by Hornets in derby

Luton Town’s U18s lost 3-0 to fierce rivals Watford in the Youth Alliance Southern Section at Ely Way on Saturday morning.

Watford took the lead in the fifth minute when the ball was scrambled over the line from close range as Hatters’ appeals for offside were turned away by the officials.

Town’s best efforts came from Jemale McKenzie-Lowe and Charlie Smith, but the Hornets netted two quickfire strikes to move 3-0 ahead by the break.

Watford’s second and third goals came in a five-minute spell towards the end of the half from two headed goals that gave keeper Ben Barnes no chance.

Luton were much-improved after the break and created a number of good opportunities, but couldn’t break through.

Hatters: Barnes, Burtenshaw, Jibodu (C), Rees (Galliford 62), Stephens (Longden 46), Davis, Banton, McKenzie-Lowe, Smith, Amu (Ngwala 71). Substitutes not used: Carpenter, Pittfield
