Town look to extend McGeehan’s loan from Norwich

Hatters assistant boss Terry Harris believes the ‘wheels are in motion’ over a move to extend Norwich City midfielder Cameron McGeehan’s loan until the end of the season, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 18-year-old has impressed during his month at Kenilworth Road, despite being restricted to just two matches so far, due to the weather sweeping the nation.

But with Jonathan Smith out until the new campaign, Town see McGeehan as a direct replacement and talks are currently ongoing.

Harris said: “We’re just in the procces of doing that now.

“We would like to take Cameron for the remainder of the season if posible, and I know the wheels are in motion for us to do that anyway.

“I think Norwich are happy with his progression, and I think the feedback to them is that he’s getting the right training here.

“He’s only played one game (before Tuesday), that was his second game the other night and they’re happy.

“It’s just a case of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.”

McGeehan helped Hatters to a 2-1 victory at Macclesfield on Tuesday night, playing alongside recent acquisition Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu in midfield as both earned praise from Harris.

He continued: “I thought the two of them did very well, because I thought (Danny) Whittaker and (Scott) Kay, the two guys at Macclesfield are experienced players.

People forget that Pelly’s a young lad and Cameron’s a young lad. They’re inexperienced in this sort of football, they’ve been playing U21 football where they pass, pass, pass and no-one puts a tackle on, so they did ever so well.”

With the likes of Shaun Whalley, Jim Stevenson, JJ O’Donnell, Alex Wall and Solomon Taiwo all out on loan, Harris also confirmed Town were hoping to arrange a few more deals in the near future.

He added: “The phone’s started to ring again now and I think it’s only right that two or three go out on loan to get some game time.

“It’s unfortunate at the moment with the weather, look at Solly, he’s gone to Aldershot and hasn’t played yet.

“Jim Stevenson and Alex Wall have been at Dartford and played a couple of games, but we probably need to get two or three out.”
