Town were hammered 5-1 at Gateshead on Saturday afternoon, with the game played Carlisle’s Brunton Park ground, and with the play-off hopes firmly extinguished, Walker wants to repay Luton’s long-suffering fans.

He said: “Hopefully we can bounce back Tuesday, whether I’m involved or whether the other 10 are involved and get a result not only for us but for the fans and the whole club.

“I just hope we can get a few results for the fans. They’ve come this far (Carlisle) and I feel sorry for every single one of them because it wasn’t good enough.

“Hopefully we can give them something to cheer about on Tuesday and from then on.”

Assistant boss Terry Harris is also going to be looking for a response from the players after their efforts on Saturday.

He said: “We just have to get back intro training, regroup, and go again. That’s what we’re paid for, that’s our job and I would have thought the players would be looking to put right what was wrong.

“Whatever side we put out in a Luton Town shirt, I expect hard work as a pre-requisite and that wasn’t there.

“When you play against a side like Gateshead who are very comfortable on the ball, if you don’t do jobs on them you pay the price and thats what happened.”

Mark Tyler and Jake Howells missed the match through injury, but Harris didn’t feel it was anything too serious.

He added: “Mark has just picked up a little back spasm and we need to take the opportunity to look at Dean (Brill) as well.

“Jake has a little abductor and groin strain. It’s not a problem as such. With the games coming up, we need to look at everybody and make evaluations and that’s what I’ve done.”
