The previous week had seen supporters stay behind to voice their displeasure after the 2-1 defeat to Hyde, but it was all smiles again, with Luton ending a four game winless at home in the league thanks to Steve McNulty’s header.

The goalscorer said: “The last home game we didn’t do ourselves justice, didn’t wear the shirt proudly, but I thought we did well this time.

“They’re the paying public. I have my own opinion like they have their opinion. They’ve come in, worked all day, worked all week, come in and follow us home and away.

“They have every right to stay behind and tell us what they think, because it’s their money they’re paying.

“They want us to win, but they need to realise, we want to win as much as them. We’re our own worst critics, we go into the dressing room and are angry, but I think we’ll put it right.”

Shaw, who was back for his first appearance under the new boss, said: “Nobody foresaw the season we’ve had. You can’t really blame the fans for venting their frustration as well as I’m sure every fan wants to see their team win.

“But it’s the rough with the smooth, you have to do the best you can to ignore the highs and the lows, you’ve got to be the same week in week out.”

The crowd’s reaction against Hyde didn’t faze boss John Still though as he said: “It’s football. When I came here, people said the crowd get angry if you don’t win.

“Well if you keep losing at Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea, they get angry as well, so what do you want to do?

“Do you want to play for the best clubs, be successful? If so do you’ve got to go and win at home.

“Don’t moan about it, if you can’t do it, go and find another club.”
