Town coach Carden aims for successive promotions

THE dream of being a first team coach in League One made up Paul Carden’s mind to end his immediate playing days and join the Hatters’ bid for back to back promotions, writes Mike Simmonds.

Carden, 32, who spent time at Kenilworth Road on loan last season, was released from his role as player/assistant manager by Cambridge at the end of the campaign.

He was part of the coaching staff for Town’s pre-season friendlies and after impressing in the role, took on the position permanently.

He said: “I know I’m not going to be a League One player in two years time. I’m not soft enough or trying to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes.

“In terms of being a first team coach, then in two years time there’s no reason why Luton Town can’t be in League One and I can’t be first team coach.”
